I have been praying for gluten free waffles to hit the supermarket shelves and finally my prayers have been answered! Schar have added gluten free waffles to their range. Of course I was skeptical, thinking they might taste like cardboard and be totally flavourless but these breakfast waffles definitely hit the spot. This is my honest review, all opinions are my own and I am being in no way sponsored to write this post.
As with any product, there are advantages and disadvantages, so lets get into the pros and cons:
+ The flavour is exactly like that of a normal waffle. It was exactly how I remember, and the smell was also fantastic. I swear I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.
+ The texture is good. If you are a waffle expert, you may be able to tell it is gluten free by it’s texture, but it is certainly not obvious and when warm and covered in syrup, these definitely hold their own next to a regular waffle.
+ No oven required. 1 minute in the toaster or grill and you are good to go, making these not only delicious, but also a speedy breakfast option.
+ Only £2 for 4. Now that may still seem expensive and you aren’t wrong, but in gluten free world, that is actually not bad when it is a specially formulated product like this.
+ The shape. They are perfect little squares with even holes just as they should be, and they didn’t fall apart with handling or cooking – IMPORTANT for gluten free.
+ Fresh not frozen. Many gluten free goodies are frozen to help with freshness, which I understand, but while you can freeze these, you can buy them fresh and they are good to go! My freezer is getting too full!
– Amount of sugar. As with a lot of gluten free alternatives, they are heavy on sugar. Of course waffles are sweet anyway, meaning these are a naughty treat and not something you should eat every day… better as a weekend treat!
– The size. They are a little smaller than I hoped and I could quite easily eat all 4 in one sitting, but then again I do just LOVE waffles!
As you can see the pros definitely outweighs the cons, overall I think these are excellent and I am so please Schar has launched these delicious sweet treats! You can buy them now in Tesco, HERE
Let me know your thoughts, do you like the new waffles from Schar? What product shall I review next?!
